Thank you for your interest in Camp Lejeune Swim Team!
This great team is a year-round community swim team where
the skill of competitive swimming meets the fun of a recreational swim team.
Swimmers learn competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and
freestyle), starts/dives, and turns and have the option of competing at swim
meets. Water/beach safety and lifesaving skills are incorporated into the
necessary team skills as well.
Camp Lejeune Swim Team and its partner together make up a
USA Swimming team, and all of the coaches are multi-certified through USA
Swimming and Red Cross and background checked. The coaches truly believe in
creating great swimmers and great people! CLST adheres to USA Swimming’s Safe
Sport practices. The coaches encourage teamwork, helping all new swimmers get
to know all of the other swimmers on the team through games and introduction
times.
Camp Lejeune Swim Team practices at Area 5 Training Tank on
Camp Lejeune base, located on Julian C. Smith Blvd between L and M
Street.
This is a close team for how large it can get, and it offers
monthly team bonding events for swimmers and their families, bringing both
sites together. Some previous events are beach days, roller-skating, picnics,
bowling, and community service events. Coaches and the Parent Board encourages
community service throughout the year for all of the swimmers through a variety
of small projects and one larger one, all are optional.
Tryouts are on an individually scheduled basis through the
year and swimmers can start the first day of the next month after tryouts, if
he or she can do the minimum requirements. Check the Tryouts tab for the dates.
We are having some administrative changes and ask for
continued patience as we navigate the best way to keep our swimmers in the
water each season.
Please check back here under the tryouts tab for
tryout updates. The team does not swim during the month of August but will
again in September.
All tryouts are first come basis but should only take
approximately 10 minutes each. Parents are encouraged to watch but cannot
communicate with their swimmer during the tryout. Adults do not need to try
out. If you can go underwater without holding your nose, coaches will teach you
everything else!
Minimum requirements to be on the main swim team:
Swimmers must be age 5 or older. Swimmer must be able to
swim on top of the water on his/her front for 25 yards and on his/her back for
25 yards without stopping or touching the bottom/sides of the pool. Swimmers
must also be able to comfortably go under water without holding their nose. If this
describes your swimmer, please contact CLST!
If your swimmer can go underwater unassisted, without
holding the nose, please let CLST know because there is a new
program for little swimmers called Little Fins! It is for children ages 5–11. We'll be happy to
send more information. We teach them all of the needed competitive skills,
along with beach and pool safety.
If your swimmer needs lessons, we have recommendations for
both travel lessons (in your home or neighborhood) or classes. Both MCCS and
Onslow Fitness offer quality lessons. All of these options provide trained
coaches who are background-checked and Red Cross-certified.
Prices run from $65 to $145 monthly for the swimming groups,
depending on which group your swimmer is in.
Detailed descriptions will be online and can be requested
individually at the end of August, after our administration completes team
structure.
Please note that tryouts ARE required to confirm the group
your swimmer is in.
There is also usually an annual registration fee, and all
swimmers must be registered, by their parents, on the USA Swimming website
through the team’s own website (more info soon). They have a couple of options
for membership, depending on your swimmer’s needs. (USA Swimming has upgraded
their system and now requires all USA swimming registrations to be processed
through their system by individual families.) All members are REQUIRED TO BE
USA SWIMMING MEMBERS.
Masters swimmers may choose to sign up for US Masters
Team.

All swimmers 18 and older are required to take an online
safety course called Athlete Protection Training on the USASwimming.org website
after creating your accounts with the team and with USA Swimming. This can be
found, along with some frequently asked questions, here:
https://www.usaswimming.org/safe-sport
Practice times (for Camp Lejeune) and required equipment can
be found under the equipment tab. All swimmers will swim between
4:45-7:30pm Monday through Thursday and Saturday mornings between 8:30-10:30.
We swim year round, with summer break in August. Workouts are
provided during this time for those who need it. High schoolers planning on
swimming in college can also get continued training during this time, scheduled
with the coach.
Competitions for the 2024-2025 season can be found under the competition tab as they become available. All competitions and practices are optional.
You do not need to get permission to miss. We understand family and school life
and that some swimmers also do other sports. Just note that your swimmer will
not progress as quickly when they come fewer days.
